The homes we work on in Lake Highlands

Lake Highlands grew up mostly after World War II, and it reads that way — brick ranch homes on a suburban grid, one-story floor plans, garages that were an afterthought when they were built. Lots here tend to be bigger than in the older, denser neighborhoods closer to downtown, which is part of why so many families move in and stay for decades.

A lot of what we see in Lake Highlands is a first remodel — a kitchen or bathroom that's original to a house built in the 1950s, '60s, or '70s, sometimes with an addition or two tacked on since. That usually means older electrical panels, single layers of cabinetry that were never designed for today's appliances, and bathrooms sized for a much smaller household. Straightforward to fix once we know what we're working with.

Homes of this era also come with materials worth checking before demo — some pre-1980s texture, tile work, and flooring can contain asbestos, and older electrical panels show up here often enough that we look for them on the first walkthrough. Testing and replacement are routine when they're planned for. We'd rather plan for them than discover them.
